Dental software solutions provider Planet DDS has announced the release of DentalOS™ with AI, an updated version of its existing platform for dental support organizations (DSOs), according to a September 24, 2025, press release from the company. This AI-first model, which embeds artificial intelligence directly into critical operations, revenue cycle, imaging, orthodontics, patient engagement, and workflows, is intended to the standard for the future of dental operations by being predictive by design, proactive in execution, and built to deliver profitable outcomes.
According to Planet DDS, DSOs are under intense EBITDA pressure because they are being squeezed by rising wages, turnover costs, declining reimbursements, and inflation. The press release notes that the results of the 2025 DIA Survey revealed that staffing (81%), rising costs (34%), patient flow (31%), insurance complexity (31%), declining reimbursements (27%), and revenue cycle management (RCM) inefficiencies (23%) were the top concerns that were “keeping leaders awake at night.” Although many look to AI for solutions, Planet DDS explains that it only offers fragile fixes with limited ROI when applied to older, siloed technologies. The inefficiencies created by such disconnected workflows and systems can drain margins and prevent organizations from realizing AI’s full value. Planet DDS refers to this as “process debt.”
To help DSOs avoid process dept, Planet DDS is taking a platform-level approach to AI. DentalOS™ with AI enables intelligence and agents to operate across applications and integrations, empowering DSOs with coordinated, end-to-end automation that spans the entire revenue cycle, imaging, and patient engagement workflows instead of fragmented tasks in standalone systems. Currently, Planet DDS is the only practice management software provider integrated with all three of the leading AI imaging vendors—Overjet, Pearl, and VideaHealth—which ensures that users can deploy best-in-class solutions within a unified platform. However, Planet DDS plans to continue to expand its ecosystem, integrating additional novel AI tools and systems that leverage the power of DentalOS with AI. In fact, Planet DDS has already onboarded fifteen new AI partners.
“AI is already delivering real results in dental when it’s connected to the platform,” says Rahul Khot, VP of AI & Innovation at Planet DDS. “Now we’re embedding intelligence into the DentalOS platform using agentic AI so that DSOs can lower the cost to collect, cut write-offs, and turn weeks of work into minutes. That means DSOs can finally see measurable EBITDA results, whether it’s fewer days in A/R, faster staff onboarding, or filling chairs more predictively.”
To operationalize the vision of transitioning from AI that assists to AI that acts autonomously, Planet DDS has designed the DentalOS with AI suite with modules that evolve from assisting to advising to acting autonomously. The modules offer operational intelligence at scale by providing continuous monitoring and benchmarking in real-time as well as an agentic AI workforce that can support human team members by handling repetitive workflows, from RCM follow-up to schedule optimization.
“Think about the daily grind today: claims in limbo, staff stretched thin, leaders piecing together data just to understand performance,” says Nathan James, SVP of Product at Planet DDS. “With AI embedded in the platform and a team of AI agents, that cycle collapses. Leaders ask, the system answers, and agents act. This is AI that doesn’t just assist, it runs operations alongside your team.”
Because artificial intelligence is embedded into the foundation of DentalOS with AI, the platform creates a durable operating advantage that protects margins today and unlocks enterprise value in the future.
