After a decade of research and development, VOCO has launched GrandioSO® 4U, a universal nanohybrid composite with a reported filler content of 91% by weight. The material is designed to closely mimic natural tooth properties, including modulus of elasticity, flexural strength, and thermal expansion behavior. According to VOCO, GrandioSO 4U also demonstrates low polymerization shrinkage (1.44%) and high wear resistance, which can contribute to extended clinical longevity.
The material incorporates what VOCO calls Visual-Transformation-Technology (VTT), aiming to balance opacity for natural esthetics with an efficient working time. It reportedly offers a 4-mm depth of cure in 10 seconds. The product's Cluster-Shade system reduces the traditional 16 VITA® shade options to five broader cluster shades, a change intended to simplify both inventory and shade selection.
GrandioSO 4U is formulated with 30% to 50% less resin content compared to conventional composites. VOCO states this contributes to a non-stick consistency and increased color stability. The composite is also said to feature radiopacity at 900% Al, which may assist in radiographic identification.
“Unlike traditional layering composites or less esthetic bulk fills, GrandioSO 4U delivers both simplified workflows and superior outcomes in a single material,” according to VOCO.
