SprintRay has announced the acquisition of the EnvisionTEC/Desktop Health portfolio of dental products, encompassing intellectual property, patents, trademarks, and technologies related to dental 3D printing hardware and materials.
This development brings together two established players in digital dentistry. EnvisionTEC, one of the early adopters of 3D printing in the dental sector, has developed a substantial library of over 200 patents over the past two decades. These span a range of applications in 3D printing systems and dental materials. Among the assets being acquired are technologies such as the Envision One platform utilizing patented cDLM (continuous digital light manufacturing), and the Einstein DLP printer line under the Desktop Health brand. The portfolio also includes materials like Flexcera, a nanoceramic resin used in dental prosthetics, which carries regulatory clearances including FDA 510(k) Class II, CE Mark, and MDR Class I certifications.
By acquiring these technologies, SprintRay is integrating hardware, material science, and intellectual property developed specifically for the dental industry. The company indicates this move is intended to strengthen its offerings in both chairside and laboratory environments.
"SprintRay's acquisition of EnvisionTEC's dental portfolio ensures existing customers continue to have the tools and support they rely on, while expanding our leadership across both chairside practices and dental labs," said Amir Mansouri, PhD, SprintRay Co-founder and CEO. "Our mission to transform dentistry through accessible, reliable 3D printing hasn't wavered. This acquisition reinforces that commitment."
Following the acquisition, several initiatives are being prioritized:
- Customer Support: Continued technical support will be available to current users of EnvisionTEC and Desktop Health systems to avoid disruptions in clinical or laboratory workflows.
- Material Availability: Production of key resins, including Flexcera, will continue to support existing and future cases involving dental prosthetics and appliances.
- Cross-Platform Validation: SprintRay plans to validate select EnvisionTEC/Desktop Health resins for use on its own systems, and is evaluating the potential for SprintRay resins to be compatible with EnvisionTEC/Desktop Health printers.
- Laboratory Applications: With the inclusion of EnvisionTEC’s lab-oriented technologies, SprintRay is positioning itself to support a broader spectrum of dental laboratories, with a focus on workflow efficiency and clinical integration.
Dental professionals using systems from either company can expect further updates as integration efforts proceed. The combined technologies aim to support a wide range of digital dentistry applications, from prosthetic fabrication to restorative and surgical planning.
