In recognition of American Heart Month, PDS Health™ is highlighting the critical connection between oral health and cardiovascular disease. With heart disease as the leading cause of death in the U.S., PDS Health underscores the importance of integrated care between dental and medical providers to detect early risk factors and improve patient outcomes.
“We’re supporting clinicians with the resources and technologies to bridge the gap between dentistry and primary care,” said PDS Health CEO Stephen E. Thorne IV. “This month, we encourage both patients and healthcare providers to recognize how oral health impacts overall well-being.”
Throughout February, PDS Health has engaged in several initiatives, including joining the American Heart Association on National Wear Red Day (Feb. 7) to raise awareness of heart disease, especially in women. They are also distributing Generations of Smiles, a publication focused on the mouth-body connection, and organizing community events such as crafting heart-shaped pillows for open-heart surgery patients and making Valentine’s Day cards for children in hospitals.
PDS Health continues to promote heart health year-round by conducting routine screenings in dental practices and maintaining 14 primary care offices connected to dental practices, enhancing care coordination.
